Dear Email Forwarders – (you know who you are)

I get a number of emails every week from people I know and friends who are email forwarders – you know what I’m talking about.  It’s usually something patriotic, political, humorous, or possibly a health tip.

For some reason this stuff is always written in some really gigantic goofy font, usually in color, SOMETIMES IN ALL CAPITALS.

The Koobface worm that made the rounds via Facebook earlier this year has spread to Twitter.  Twitter followers are receiving tweets with an embedded TinyURL link that reroutes users to the AdultFriendFinder website or another site that entices users to download an infected video file.  As usual, the vigilant will avoid clicking on embedded links, even if sent on a friend’s account.

Users of Yahoo, Hotmail, and other similar services need to be on guard for realistic emails supposedly coming from Yahoo or Hotmail, whoever your email provider is, requesting you to “confirm your account” or similar nonsense.  Basically you give them your user name and password on a realistic looking fake web site, and these fraudsters take over your email account, change the password, and then send a plea for money to everyone in your address book.

Windows 7 can be preordered before July 11 at a considerable savings.  The Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade is available for $49.99 and the Professional Upgrade version is $99.99.  This has to be a straight upgrade from similar version of Windows Vista.  Won’t work with XP, and this software will not let you perform a full install unless you have a valid copy of Vista installed on the PC, or a copy of the Vista installation CD available during installation.
