Security Software to Avoid

Many people already know that I am not a fan of McAfee security products, due to the number of unusual networking issues I have come across that were resolved by removing McAfee and installing anything else.

Well, I have another product to add to my short list of security products to avoid.  One of my clients was having problems getting all his Internet connection speed.  He had F-Secure Online Protection from CenturyLink.  When we removed it we got a 10 fold increase in throughput.

I am reluctant, at this point, to level a blanket disapproval of all F-Secure products. I certainly cannot recommend the CenturyLink iteration of this security product.  As a general rule, I dislike ALL security products provided by ISPs.  It seems they always have some sort of problem that shows up sooner or later, especially when you change Internet companies, like moving from CenturyLink to Comcast.

Buy your own, or download one of the good free security products.  Our recommendations are AVG Internet Security 2013, or AVG Free or Microsoft Security Essentials (Free).
