Friday Phish Fry

Phishing Email Alerts

Catch of the Day:  SSL Phish
Chef’s Special: SharePoint Phish

Examples of clever phish that made it past my spam filters and into my inbox. Some are sent by clients or readers like you, and other reliable sources on the Internet.

You can send phishing samples to me at phish@wyzguys.com.

My intention is to provide a warning and show current examples of phishing scams, related articles, and education about how these scams and exploits work, and how to detect them in your inbox. If the pictures are too small or extend off the page, double clicking the image will display them in a photo viewer app.

SSL Phish

Unfortunately I got to this one too late to screen capture the landing page at https://theadvocatechurch.org/ssl/v1.  The site has been taken down, probably due to this attacker using their hijacked web site to host the landing pages.  Be on the lookout for fake SSL and TLS certificate renewal exploits like this one.

SharePoint Phish

Again, I got back to this save too late to explore the links and save the landing pages.  My apologies.

Presumably a SharePoint credential stealing exploit.  The button link resolved to https://youengage.me/p/63923a1a328fca01000016a3 but the landing page was already gone.  You Engage Me is a legitimate website visitor conversion platform.  The account was probably set up by the attacker.

4These sorts of exploits have a short survival time of less than 24 hours in some cases to two or three days.  Someone is doing a good job of alerting the underlying hosting companies and site owners.
