20% of Macs Have Malware Now

There has been a lot of activity by malware (malicious software) writers lately centered around the Mac platform.  I have been saying for years that Macs were no more secure than PCs, it was just that there was little interest in the malware community in writing for a platform that represented a three percent share of the market.  Bigger target over on the Windows side.  With the huge success of the iPhone and iPad product lines, that lack of interest has disappeared.

There is a new Trojan horse for the Mac called Flashback that allows remote access and control, and others that promise to be a malware scanner.  There is a great article of Sophos that covers all the details.  Sophos also has a link to their free Mac compatible anti-virus software.  Top Mac OSX malware include OSX/Flshplyr, OSX/Fake AV, and OSX/RSPlug.

If you own a Mac,and do not have some sort of security, anti-virus, or anti-malware product on it, it is time to get one installed.
